Fable Fort
Senior Capstone
Fable Fort allows you to connect with the little ones in your life through storytime, no matter how near or far. Fable Fort uses specially designed story cards to create your own tales for endless story combinations and creations! The Fable Fort app allows you to schedule a story time with a loved one while integrating seamlessly with the projected story cards.
Project Purpose
Fable Fort was created with love for my nieces and nephew. For my senior capstone, I wanted to create a solution to a problem that I face: reading stories with young family members virtually. Fable Fort allows you and your little ones to create your own stories using our deck of illustrated story cards in combination with our video calling app. Limiting screen time is on a lot of parents’ and caregivers’ minds, which is why our illustrated story cards feature cutouts to create projected images using our Fable Flashlight, so the screen isn’t the main focus.

How It Works
Fable Fort is a versatile tool. Our story cards can be used to create stories together in person or virtually, or during individual playtime. By changing the order of the cards, a new story can be imagined. When you create a story with someone virtually, set up your Fable Fort kit and join the call. The app will guide you through story time; the app will create a problem for your story to solve by the end to teach little ones about problem-solving and give them an opportunity to speak about their feelings. Once you’re ready to start your story, the app will record the story so you can listen back later.
The Brand
I made the Fable Fort logotype by cutting out letters of paper to mimic the cutouts of the projectable story cards. The logo mark represents a fort and a flashlight. For a kid, a fort is a place to use your imagination and create memories and a flashlight lends perfectly to the story cards. The four battlements at the top of the fort represent my three nieces and one nephew.
The App
Our app is your hub for storytime. Here, you can schedule a storytime with someone in your fort and record a story together, record a story by yourself to send to someone, or listen to a previously recorded story.

The Cards
A card set included two types of cards: character and action cards. The character cards were designed to encourage your story to speak about emotions; the action cards give the characters things to do and move the story along.
The hippo and bird were inspired by the nicknames of my nieces and nephew; the activities cards are inspired by things our family likes to do.
The Fable Fort cards have cutouts that can be projected with your flashlight. This takes some of the focus away from a phone screen to help keep the child engaged and interested in the story. It also creates more opportunities for imagination and story time fun.
